Ammerman Commission

Rara Avis for piano, computer and video was commissioned last Thursday at the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology at Connecticut College. It was a wonderful collaboration between Carmen Montoya, Scott Marosek, and myself. It was great to meet the staff at the Ammerman Center and the other commissioned artists.

Michael McGrath is premiering my work Baptist Pumpkin Center for drumset and computer this Saturday at Rice University. There will also be premieres by Kurt Stallmann and Robert Yekovich and a work by Art Gottschalk. The concert features a number of amazing performers including Steve Duke, Aleck Karis, Allen Blustine, Timothy Pitts, and students of the Shepherd School of Music.

Secret Society performed at the Jean Gebser International Convention

I performed my piece Secret Society for the Jean Gebser Internation Convention held at Rice University on October 19th. Here’s the video (a tripod and luck, no separate recording!). There were some really cool pieces on the concert by Hsiao-Lan Wang, Dave Gedosh, Dan Zajicek, and Bryce Ingmire. I plan to record and release a DVD of these types of performances this summer with much higher audio and video standards.

AFA Demo

Composers from the American Festival for the Arts came to Rice Electro-Acoustic Music Labs (REMLABS) last Friday for a whirlwind tour through the history of electronic music. After the lecture, the composers created an improvisation for a Wiimote-controlled instrument and live processing of their voices using some software I made in Max/MSP.

This weekend the Zeitgeist Ensemble will be recording my work Moiré at Wild Sound Recording Studio in Minneapolis, MN. The recording will be included on the Music from SEAMUS 20 CD. I’ll post pictures from the session later (UPDATE: the session went great, but we were too busy for photos!).
