Ritual House for tenor saxophone and computer is a performance environment in which the saxophonist and computer work together to articulate unique musical spaces. The computer populates each space with probabilistic reactions to the saxophonist’s written and improvised input. Transitions between the individual spaces may be smooth or abrupt and mirror the mercurial nature of the larger spaces they connect. The piece was created using the Max/MSP programming environment and was written for and dedicated to Woody Witt.
